After graduating from the University of Denver Law School in 1986, I worked as a law clerk for the Chief Judge of the Colorado Court of Appeals, drafting legal opinions in many criminal appeals. In 1987, I started a solo law practice in Alabama where I prosecuted hundreds of drunk driving and misdemeanor cases in municipal court, while defending clients charged with more serious offenses in state courts in both Alabama and Florida. During this time, I successfully defended two capital murder cases, avoiding the death penalty for both clients. While in Alabama, I also served as tribal prosecutor for the Poarch Creek Indian Tribal Court. In 2001, I relocated my practice to Iowa, where I have devoted the majority of my time to defending the criminally accused.
Since coming to Iowa I have defended literally hundreds of defendants charged with a full range of criminal charges including: drug crimes, sexual assault and rape, drunk driving (OWI), child abuse, murder, conspiracy, forgery, identity theft, fraud, theft, burglary, assault, domestic violence, robbery, arson, sex offender registration violations, child pornography, and all types of traffic offenses.
